I love this image from a recent shoot, but the focus is off. I have tried some things I know to sharpen it, but I need some more ideas. Any thoughts on how to make it look better?
It's depressing me. The pose and such is, in my opinion, HOT.

Just keep sharpening it (as in apply USM a second or third time). You won't be able to make 16x20" prints, but for web usage it'll be fine.

BTW, cool rock!

I tried man, but I dunno how good I did...

I did unsharp mask, but using alpha channels to keep the sharpening on just the edges in the image (so as not to oversharpen larger areas like skin, the rocks, etc.). Doing it this way you can sharpen to your hearts content so that, say, her eyes look sharper, but other areas won't look oversharpened. At least, that's the idea.

Sam

BTW, I didn't actually change anything with the color of the image, but somewhere in the conversion the color changed some...

I think you are right. I guess technically the problem is not focus, but blur from subject movement. Bummer, huh?

Not a bad go of it. Better than I have made so far. I guess technically, though, the problem is not a focusing issue but one of blur from subject movement. I'll have to watch that.

I tried to blur other than the face so the face would appear sharper...

problem is, the color shifted because I assigned RGB1998 when I brought it in..

Hi,
I think by just converting it to B&W the image works, there are loads of great B&W images out there by famous photogs that are slightly blurred...

Very interesting idea for salvaging the photo. Nicely done.

I like this approach as well. I'm going to have to play around with this one.

Thanks!
