There is a line that we don't want to cross using post production. Sometimes I get so "in love" with a shot it's hard to realize how unrealistic it looks after excessive post-production. Hit me with everything you got on this shot...

Thanks,
Doug

The main thing that I notice here is that the water looks unreal where it meets the edge of the base of land behind her to each side. But she looks good and very natural.

I love playing in Photoshop. Good start on this. Suggestions: The water behind the model is to fake looking and also to high. The angle you are shooting is lower, the waterline behind her should be lower. My guess, based on the halo around her hair is that you used the extract tool to take out the original background. Personally, I would try to clean the halo up a bit, give her hairline a sharper edge. But, that is me. Now to the sunglasses. Whatever the green object is in the left lens doesn't belong in a water shot. You can either bail and just make the reflection dark, or try playing with an image "reflected". Not too obvious, but maybe something that the viewer is drawn in to examine. Remember to keep the wisp of hair reflected in the "reflection." Possibilties here are endless.

This is a four photo composite: Model, bike, arboredum, and reflection on tank of said bike.

Thanks for the feedback Jim. That is the exact thing I was not totally happy with. That line where water meets background somehow could not blend just right I thought. I was pretty ok with the other things done to the image but that line bugged me. Any ideas on how to make such different materials like water and woods blend better?

Thanks,
Doug

Thanks for the comments Tom. The halo effect is from trying to blur the background and isolate her more from it. When painting it in mask mode the opacity was at full 100% but somehow didn't blend there along the edges of her hair as well as I wanted it to. Seems my main concern is the blending of the background against almost all of the edges. Gotta find a better way to do that. The green in the sunglasses is from a beachball floating nearby.

Thanks for the feedback,
Doug

With even more PS... guess the answer is keep on altering it until it looks unaltered.

I like this better, the halo around her head isn't nearly as distracting as it was in the first one.
Also I'm wondering, was this shot in one of those pools with the rolled edge?
and...is that an ice cooler I'm seeing reflected in her sunglasses?
I really like the shot, I feel like I'm picking the heck out of it and I don't mean to be. But I'd want someone to tell me this stuff.

It's one of those redneck above ground pools. At first I was wondering how the hell I was going to get good shots and not show the upright sides of the pool. Shot it anyway and started playing with it in PS. Ended up wanting it to look like the water didn't have any edge so cloned in some woods and blurred/blended the edge a little.

The green in the shades is reflection from a beach ball floating next to her and out of camera range.

And hey, I asked for it. I wanted to get somebody else's take on what stuck out other than my eye that had been working on it. Sometimes after looking at an image for so long you just get oblivious to something that would be obvious to somebody else.

Thanks,
DP Ellis
