I'd just tell people it was one of those beveled edge pools... they won't know the difference.
I think the halo thing bothered me more than the water edge.

I know what you mean about getting so engrossed you miss stuff that other people spot right off. It's always good to have another set of trusted eyes or two.

Since the woods behind your model was blurred out in the DOF, I might wonder if using some photoshop guasian blur into some of the water might have helped out with that area. Not sure until you try it I suppose.

While I can't see the image, my rule of thumb is as little post production as possible. Color correction, cropping, resizing, and that's about it.
