I'm always a fan of black and white... levels and curves layers

I'll give it a try...

How's this???

The problem I have with this image is that my heavy handed attempt to correct it makes the image look like a strong fill flash was used to try and balance the daylight... and since the rim lighting on the hair doesn't quite match the background lighting, my fix looks like a poor cut and paste job... Perhaps if I tried to cut and paste into a different background it might look better???

Oh well... Perhaps someone can do better.

Aloha from Hawaii,
Michael

I love doing color correction. I love warmth in an image so I kept that but fixed the cast problem to the image. If you like what I did, send me an email and I will explain how I fixed this image.

I took a another look at my first attempt and it looks a little heavy handed.

Perhaps this one is a little better? What do you think?

I think it's incredibly interesting how every person has a different interpertation of what the picture is supposed to look like. If I did this for a living it would drive me nuts.

What I'm looking for is something which

1) seperates the model from the background

2) try to get an accurate color.

When taking the photo I made two mistakes.

1) I set my flash for -.5 stop compensation when I should have set it for +.5 stop this underexposed the model and over exposed the background.

2) I had my white balance set to auto. I should have set it to daylight. I have no idea why it was like that, normally I leave it on daylight.

There are two other conditions regarding the photo

1) The photo was taken at sunset, it should be warm.

2) The bathing suit is RED.

After looking at all the pictures side by side in photoshop I think that Alice Marie's interpertation is the best of the bunch. It maintains the warmth of the light, especially in the skin tones and it has sufficient contrast to sepeate the model from the background.

The closest I came was this

This is a duplicate layer with the blend mode set to screen (thanks Jason407), then an adjustment layer with a photo filter (a blue 80 with the defaults) then another adjustment layer with curves to up the contrast. My photoshop skils suck.

Anyway, thank you all for help and ideas. Please feel free to continue to play with it.

I kind of like the background with the warm tint to it. But here is my post.
