Yeppers, pumping up the contrast wreaks havoc with similar tones nearby. Given the inclination I'm sure someone (myself included) could give that area a contrasting edge line - just enough to allow separation. But hey, it was a quickie.

I kind of like the noise...it makes them really look old. This one was scanned from an actual print with a similiar effect I suppose.

Thanks!

[/ QUOTE ]

My pleasure!

I've found that by adding a small amount of noise into a picture and then using a digital camera noise removal filter on the resulting image (and then again adding a smaller amount of noise) can help make some B&W pictures look better. It sometimes works on color pictures too (I did this to your standing pose pictures. It's just more subtle). It almost gives it a film like appearance. Then again, depending on the person viewing the picture, that can be subjective.

I used (almost) the same technique on your follow-up picture. I hope you like it.

I like the first one. you have a beautiful smile and the b/w conversion came over nicely. No need to blow out the image to make it look good and the stripes in the bed are still noticeable. It would make a great print.

Nicole, yes on this particular one I think the sepia is best, but for the ones on the bed I think I would prefer b/w. Also, in another response you asked if the background was distracting. Yes, in color. The sepia (or b/w) makes it less so. An additional treatment would be to increase the blur of the background some more which I have done for you in this example.

Thanks, David

nicole,

i updated the original image i worked on for you. your image needed to be distressed opposed to just adding noise.

when i saw your image, i can image it as a pinup during wwII.
