Hi gang,

I have been doing photos for musicians and bands lately and this is one that is needed for a client but I don't know how to get the red out (no Visine jokes please ) from his head. He leaned over right into the red stage light as I shot the image and I'd like to know if there is a way to get his skin tone on his head back to normal. If not, well, so be it, but I know there are some very talented people on this forum who know all manner of tricks to help out.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Good day!

Mike

I'm far away from being a PS wiz but I gave a try to your low-res version just to see what can be done...

Not too bad...I'm sure that you can salvage the high-res one..

I simply selected the red spot section and made a new layer out of it and did a Selective Color adjustment on it...reducing the reds...I removed the red shadow on his lapel with a clone tool and some healing tools

But that was done really quickly...I'm sure that with the high-res pic and more skills at PS, it can be salvaged...

Just curious.. Is converting to B&W an option??? Most musicians seem to prefer B&W images in my experience..

even in B&W you would still have the same problem and it would probly look worse

Just a roughly converted B&W version.. Not perfect but probably not too bad either..

Played around with the image a little and came up with another option..

Make a duplicate layer
Desaturate the top layer
Set blend mode to Lighten
Erase everything except the red areas
Adjust levels on the top layer to suit your preferences

You have to do this in multiple passes working on different portions of it to get it the way you want..

Hope this is helpful..

Yes, the artist does want black and white however I have been trying to put together a large collage (20x30) to put up at the club where he plays that will include all the other Blues musicians that play there. The collage will be in color and will also have my business name and contact information for band photos, etc. I may have to give thought to combining both color and black and white images in the collage. Heck, I might even have to just do the whole thing in black and white to be a more accurate representation of what my band photos will look like and what their's will look like if they hire me. Hmmmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Good day sir!

I'd love to see your work.. I enjoy shooting local bands every chance I get.. I enjoy most music styles so I end up in some pretty strange situations at times but that's what makes it fun.. Even ended up shooting at a rave once.. I've been fortunate enough to shoot images for some CD's, two of which are being distributed in several countries..

If you're interested, I have some of my photo galleries at:
My Galleries

I'm in the middle of moving everything around and have about a dozen more galleries to put on that page..

Happy shooting..
