a reflector or some sort of light concentrator or was it bare bulb? If the latter then the effect was the same as a very large reflector. If you did use a reflector it would have to be one meant to focus the light rather one meant to disperse. Your modeling light should give you a hint as to the outcome. Someone mentioned using Hot lights as spots this would work best as you can see exactly what you're going to get.
