I usually have my WB set on cloudy all of the time. However I normally shoot in Raw and adjust color temperature in Photoshop to suit. For flash or daylight I end up between 5500K and 6000K. Also depends on the skin tone of the model.
You might want to compare with another D70 to see if yours actually has a defective red tint.
