For a different point of view (non-bees) I have a descent set of Novatron strobes. They're plastic and very light, but reasonably tough. I haven't had one quit on me yet and I've dropped a couple. And they're cheap, on ebay I got a four light set with stands, barn doors, snoot, and 440 power pack for $250. Another nice thing is that the lights and power pack are interchangeable with speedotron brown line. I know a couple of other photogs that started out with Novatrons, it's a good w/s per $ brand.
