Yes. Unsharp Mask to me in Lab Color Mode by clicking on the Lightness Channel works well in most cases. However, I stopped using this sharpening technique when I learned other techniques from Robert Sanders.
In Lab Color in the lightness channel, You also may like the tonality of the gray-scaled' image as well, to copy it and create a grey-scale image from there.
