I agree with the test RFS told you to use.
My D70 is 4 months old and I have put 12,500 shots on it and if I see soomething on it I give it a clean but it hasn't really needed it much, so if you don't have anything on it, leave it alone.
My S1 on the other hane used to be like a magnet to dust, I had to clean it all the time.
