David,
Wish I could help, but I am a Windows XP user, not a Mac user. I can tell you that I went round and round with my wife's Epson Stylus printer and also wasted a ton of glossy paper. I finally had the kids buy me a HP Photosmart printer for Father's Day and have not had the same problems with that one. I say all this because here is what I learned during the whole process:
1. Don't mix paper and printer types. Use HP paper on the HP and Epson paper on the Epson. Mixing never gave me good results. Are you using Photo paper designed for your printer?
2. The Epson my wife uses ALWAYS prints photos darker than they appear in Photoshop. This was especially true if I told it what kind of paper I was using (i.e. Epson Premium Glossy etc.). I found I got my most accurate results with that printer when I used Epson photo paper BUT told the printing interface it was plain white paper instead of photo paper (go figure). I have never used a Mac, so I don't know if you can do something similar there.
Good luck!
Earl
