I use those tools and find them usefull IF you use them on a separate layer AND then use the blending option to reduce the amount of softening. makes my production go much faster than trying to do it all with individual layers and tools. My clients like the effects a lot... other pros look at it an see too much PS work.... hence the blending to reduce the effect a bit. I recommend them... but then I'm a tad lazy... ;-)
