Acceptable quality is also relative to the subject on the picture, regardless of the mode in which you are using the camera, if the picture is a closeup you can probably go very large on the other hand if you are doing a group of 60 people you may want to stay within the 11x14 range, larger than that your image will start to lose details on the faces, my experience anyway.
