Hi Doug,
Yes, the Coolscans are a bit pricey and fortunately I have a paramedic that lives right next door so I just called him after I wrote the check.
I read several "tutorial" sites on scanning and I found basically the same information concerning the intial scan, which is to do all of the adjustments to the prescan image as possible before the actual scan. By doing so, the final "tweaking" in PS or whatever image editing software one might choose (PS 7 for me) won't be so drastic and time consuming. Actually, that makes perfect sense but I'm still not seeing those stellar results I see from others when they scan and post an image (here and elsewhere). You're right. I need to find me a guru, burn some incense and put on some Tibetan chant music, and let the guru show me the ropes.
My first move is to get some CHROME and start using it. I'm going to try the Fuji that someone mentioned and I'm going to try some E100SW, as per the pros in the glamour books.
Take care.
Mike
