I'm certainly no expert in the area, but in my experience with spectroscopic intrumentation and sensor bloom, I wouldn't expect to see the "puzzle piece" configuration, but rather a circular area of white surrounded by rings of colors.
I can imagine a "shaped" lens flare, but it's hard to imagine what would cause THAT particular shape. I showed this image to a friend who's had a considerable amount of experience with optical instrumentation (although not photographic experience) and he suggested a light source striking your lens momentarily - like a reflection of sunlight from a car, etc. Uh - he actually also suggested a momentary laser strike, but that seems less likely to me.
This is the only frame to show such an effect, right? Out of about how many during that period?
