Yup, what Mark said about the conversion process being suspect has to be it. The 10D is used by any number of professional people. Heck the Olympus E10 a 4mp camera was being used by one or more magazine staff photographers and you couldn't see any pixilazation in the 8x10 prints there.

For that matter I've printed 13x17 prints off both the E10 and 10D and there's no visible loss of detail.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that given 30 seconds I can take an image captured with a $20,000+ digital back and a Hassiblad H1 and make it the worst peice of crap you can imagine. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

You might want to try taking one of the files you have and give it to someone who knows what they're doing with a printer and give it a shot again. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to come up with a better print.
