I'm sorta with Dave on his second comment. Sometimes it is hard or would appear awkward for the model to have here limbs/hands in all photos. But then many times, either due to posing or cropping, it can look like the limb is amputated.

This is probably one of the first things I look at when I am editting my photos for composition.

I guess it's up to personal preference as it does seem that the old traditions are being dropped or change.

As for this image - I like the separation from the background, but the model could "pop" a little more. Is it my monitor? It looks like there is a slight cast to the image.
