How much is this worth it to you? Ask a lawyer. You have a verbal agreement to do the work. You got a deposit. You have out of pocket expenses up to this point. Is there good will available, or is this a lost client and cause?
It may not be worth the bad press, time and costs to try to force the job or keep all or part of the deposit.
I NEVER take DEPOSITS, just RESERVATION FEES. That way, the money is mine!
