I spoke to a Canon rep friend of mine at a New Years party this past season and he told me the 6D will replace the 5D in late spring or early summer. He didn't know the exact date. But assured me it is coming. He said it will have a a 14+ megapixel sensor, weather seals, live view, bigger screen, yada yada yada, pretty much the 40D and 1D Mark III wrapped into one. So there ya go about that.
Lens wise. It's nice to have that 2.8 when you need it like Chuck said. But it sure is nice to shoot at 1/4 shutter and get a sharp photo too. Get the 2.8 IS if you can. The IS slows down the focus a bit when it's on but not too bad. If you're shooting with strobes most of the time anyway though, you really don't need a fast lens. As for other lenses Canon: 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 IS, 85mm 1.2 (OH BABY, that one's nice.)
Best,
JP
