To test memory, go to the Control Panel and select Administrative Tools. Then select Memory Diagnostic Tool. The Tool is a "DOS" app. You can also run it without loading Windows:
Turn on computer and keep pressing F8 key till the boot menu appears. Use TAB key to select memory diagnostic tool at bottom of screen.
