As usual, the reasonable "solution" here is somewhere between the two positions.
The O.P. certainly realized that he was doing something different and that it was not a "standard" glamour image. He probably should have said "this is what I was doing, and why. What are your thoughts?"
For what he was attempting, it might well be a nice shot. But I agree with Dave, in that I do not care for it either.
