Its just like shooting the reception of a wedding where you often have hundreds of people. Just get lots of shots of people interacting. But if you're also doing large group shots, then a wide angle lens will help. The 24 end of your 24-105 is really a 37 on the 20D, so it you can borrow something around an 18 that will give you a wider angle for big group shots. I often shoot large group shots from above (from a landing, or on stairs, looking down at about a 45 degree angle on group) in the conditions permit. The group all looks up at the photographer and thus you get good face shots of the group.
