I guess I'm not quite understanding what you hope to be doing here. If this is a reception, then generally you don't do a lot of "posed" shots. So that means you'll have a hard time setting the appropriate fstop since the various people being photographed will be at varying distances from these globes.
What I usually do is to just shoot with a small on camera hot shoe flash and a modifier on it to spread the light out a little. I then use a slower shutter speed to allow the ambient light to contribute to the shot. Putting something like you show in your photo in a reception area is just asking for disaster if someone knocks one of those things over.
