I decided, before I invest too much money in to Nikon glass to make the switch and go Canon. I decided that 5d is currently the ideal body (for me) in the Canon line up (1Ds III is not here yet), so I will be selling my D200 and the 2 lenses that I own, and getting the 5d.
Now this is where I need your help:
I know that for glamour and portrait work the 70-200 f/2.8, and the 85 f/1.2 are ideal, and I will be buying both lenses.
I also need an everyday lens that I can slap on the camera when I am out running around with the family. I was thinking the 28-200 f/3.5-5.6, but need some feedback. Everyone I talked to so far has told me that I should only buy canon’s “L” lenses and nothing else. Has anyone used the 28-200 f/3.5-5.6? Is it ok as a knock around lens? Is it good enough to take it on vacation to Europe and shoot historic sites with. Considering the investment I am making in the rest of the equipment, is this lens going to be up to par? Is there an alternative? I am able to invest some additional moneys to get it right, since I am planning on sticking with this glass for many years to come.
I am also considering getting the 24-70 f/2.8, but am not sure if I need it. It would be a nice compliment to the 70-200 f/2.8 and complete the full range for me at 2.8, but I am not sure if I need it. Can it be used as my "every day lens"?
As always I appreciate all of yours feedback.
