I never could figure why the rear sync wasn't the default or why camera manufacturers don't just do away with front sync. Light trails ahead of the subject just seem 'odd'...not natural (try taking a burning branch out of the campfire and wave it around...you'll see streaking behind it, never in front).
When would you want 'front sync'?
