Read up on how to properly white balance your camera. That's the most important step. After shooting on aperture priority for a while(what I loved on my Nikon N90S), I found the camera's meter wasn't very good. Now I shoot everything manual and get beautiful images. Also, take some shots...when they look correctly exposed on your camera's LCD screen, load them onto your computer and see if they match. My LCD screen is actually a little lighter than what the image is when I load it into the computer. Once you learn your camera's quirks, you're good to go. That's just my experience, others, I'm sure have had different experiences.
Overall, the camera rocks. I shoot mostly studio/indoor location so it's perfect. Buy a 1 gig card. You'll get about 211 of the highest res .jpgs before you have to download/swich cards. The largest image I had make was a 4'x6' duratrans. Used Genuine fractals to increase the size, it looked amazing. I'm sure you're going to have many good shoots with it. Lastly, use good glass. Nothing worse than using lesser lenses, as you'll never see the true potential of the camera. Good luck.
