If, as you say, the scars show up as 'rings', perhaps what you can do is to select the areolas, copy to seperate layers in the same location as the underlying ones. Then you could enlarge the copies which should effectively hide the rings. This will mean of course that the new areolas will be bigger than in reality but that may do the trick...as long as you don't enlarge too much.
Can you post a cropped image of at least one of the breasts...no need to include the woman's face but it would help to see just how much you have to rework.
