Besides looking cool, I believe that the reason for a black body on a camera is that it does not show up as a visible reflection in the eyes of your model. That is also why photographers often wear black clothing.
If you are shooting outdoor sporting events then the opposite is true. Most lenses are painted white so that they don't absorb as much thermal heat from the sun (radiant heat) and expand, hence affecting the distance between the internal elements within the lens itself.
