The 2400 does a very good job with color plus it does a great job with BW. I'm still learning to get a good BW print out of it. The color gamut is wider on the 1800 especially in the red and blue areas or maybe the saturation is better. The best thing is to see for yourself. Check them out side-by-side at a store like CompUSA. Often, especially on weekends, Epson will have a representative in these stores so you can talk to them and see the printers work side by side. If it weren't for my desire to create BW in addition to color, I'd have the 1800. This conclusion was reached after such an above mentioned visit. I surprised myself.
