Well, speaking from the Canon side of things (I see I'm in the minority here. :-)), I use the 24-70L/f2.8 almost (but not quite) exclusively in the studio and the 70-200L/f2.8/IS outdoors.
As for filters, nothing more than a circular polarizer when shooting outdoors.
