I use an 800 in a 30 by 40 softbox for full length shots of girls. I have never had occasion to crank it beyond about a quarter to a third up from the lowest setting. Unless you are shooting in a BIG studio with a HUGE softbox about 50 feet from the model, I can't imagine needing the 1600.

Get an 800, if it doesn't do the job you need done, you can have Alien Bees upgrade it to the 1600 at the original cost difference plus $25 if my memory isn't totally gone.

And hold on to your old lights unless you get a really good deal on selling them. A man can never have too many lights... (yes, you can, but then you are probably shooting for Playboy and that's just the way they do it...)
