I tried a tall, thin mirror that was on a wooden frame.. it was light enough that I could get it very close to the camera position so as to minimize the effect Doug mentioned. Yeah, it can add some light where you didn't want it, but if you're using hot lights or modeling lights, you should be able to see the effect prior to tripping the shutter.

In the end, I kept it around for a while - used it as a prop in some shots - but when I moved studios I left it there for the next guy as it wasn't all that helpful.
