Well there are two things that I see that might be the case. In the first image I see a second trypod on the left. Maybe it was not used but maybe it was. In the second image the softbox looks like it would light up one side very well but not having a light from the other side or above would produce a very dark shadow on the models side. I would think you would need the light more in the middle then so far offf to one side like that. I love softboxes and I want to get a small one for a hair light. My 5 ft box does a good job on a full body shot but I am sure a larger one would be better.
