Okay, here's the story. My friend was looking to purchase a digital camera. I told him that he should consider getting an slr, and learn how to take photos. I assured him that I could show him enough that he would get much nicer pics on his next family trip to Disney World.

So, he bought a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with an EF-S 18-55 kit lens. A nice $869 starter camera.

So I show him how to shoot in program mode, so he can always feel safe that he'll get nicee snaps...but I also wanted to show him some uses of the manual functions and how to "learn" what the camera is doing.

THIS IS THE STUPID PART
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to change the f stop on this camera. The wheel behind the shutter release changes the shutter speed, but how on earth do you change the f stop? Now, I've used a 20D, 5D and othe Canon film cams and never had this inability to figure them out.

Now, looking at this kit lens, I'm not even sure the lens has more than one stop. There is no manual adjustment for the f stop on the lens itself, nor is there any info on the lens characteristics beside 18-55mm. In the viewfinder it shows 5.6
