ALWAYS GET UPWIND from the site, as if you are downwind, the smoke stacks up and will start obscuring the show.
I break out the Mamiya twin lens w/ a 250 mm lens. Set on tripod with a cable release in one hand, and the slide from a 4x5 film holder in the other.
I lock the shutter open, and keep the 4x5 slide in front of the lens... move the slide out of the way right when the burst starts, while I watch the framing on the ground glass. If the burst is starting too far to the edge, I don't remove the slide, and just wait for the next volly.
