I ditto gray. My studio currently has gray floors and off white walls. I'll be painting the walls a light to medium gray just to tone down the walls a bit. But, my studio is also 30'x40' so it isn't as much of an issue as it would be in a smaller space. Since the light bouncing around has a much further distance to go from set to wall and back to set, it falls off quickly and doesn't affect it as much as you would think. In a medium size space I'd go medium gray, and in a very small space I'd go black. But I do find a black room to be a very depressing space to work in day in and day out.
