(in Oregon) Your homeowner's policy WILL NOT cover your camera (or anything else) if it's not IN YOUR HOUSE. Not just on your property, but *in* your house or a structure attached to it with direct access (like the front porch). I recently found this out the hard way.
Now when I travel I take my US Customs inventory list of my gear to my insurance agent and buy a term comprehensive policy for it for replacement value (to the poster that said that they don't do this, you didn't ask - insurance companies will figure out any way they can to allow you to give them your money). That coupled with a personal liability policy for the term is usually a couple hundred dollars for $15k (new) worth of equipment for two weeks. They'll also want to know where you're going - that may affect the rate.
