If you have a policy covering your domicile (homeowner's or renter's insurance), contact your agent and tell them what you want to do. Basic policies typically cover up to ~$2500 and only pay out if the equipment is damaged due to fire/water/??? while in the home. Dropping or breakage is not typically covered by a basic policy.

What you're basically looking for is a specific rider to cover you photo equipment. You will most likely have to provide serial numbers (and possibly photos) for every item you wish to cover. Additionally, the coverage usually has to be in place for 30 days in order for you to file a claim. Costs typically run anywhere from 0.5% to 3% of your equipment's value annually.
