I certainly don't qualify as a pro, but with over 10,000 images on my 10D using a Tokina 28-70mm f 2.8, I can't complain. I've got a Sigma 70-200mm f 2.8 that I bought when I was still shooting film. I have never had any problems with it, but don't use it very often with the smaller format of the 10d. The decision is still pretty much a personal one.
