Nikon make a synch cord adapter that fits into the hot shoe and will fix your sync lead problem.
White balance in the studio is simple.. do a custom white balance using a grey card., it is so quick and easy that its not funny. Mr canon please take note...
Also you are able to add warm or cool tints to most digital cameras via the menu, and the D100 is not an exception. I'm sorry I can't remember how on the D100 as I now use other bodies.
Fuji digitals also use nikon glass and the D200 will be available shortly, not to mention the D2x
