Poster board, though flimsy and thus probably not much use out in the real world where wind blows, will work. The bonus is you can often find poster board in a multitude of colors.

Now, as far as the "fancy" reflectors go.. they have their uses. For example, I can fold up my 48" gold on one side/white on the other side and store it in the back compartment of my Domke camera bag. Let's see you do that with a piece of poster board! Oh, yeah.. art and hobby stores often sell sheets of foamcore.. basically 2 sheets of poster board with a thin sheet of styrofoam plastic in between. It's a lot more rigid than poster board and works well except in gale force winds.
