You can get a Wein Safe sync that fits in the hotshoe and allows your to connect the pc cord to it that goes to the flash. It regulates the voltage and keeps in below the 6 volt limit. I've been using one for years on my older cameras (Canon 10D, Canon G2). Works very well. I also use the Pocket Wizards, but they are quite expensive.
