I'm going to be purchasing some alienbees flash units, question is for non-cord work, i would obviously need a controller of some sort.
Is there much difference between alienbees own controllers http://www.alienbees.com/remotes.html versusu mamiya's pocket wizard(s)?
thanks

I went through a similar series of questions earlier. I also found an EXCELLENT alternative to those higher priced wireless/radio setups and it works excellent with my 20D.

Wireless Radio Remote Flash on eBay

I purchased TWO of these, since I have two AB800's and I often use them at the lowest power setting. The problem with ABs when you do use the lowest output setting is that sometimes, the slave doesn't "see" the main flash and, of course, the slave doesn't fire. So, I needed two of these wireless remotes. Anyways, I received them this week and I tried them for the first time tonight - one remote receiver on each AB800 and the single transmitter on the flash hot shoe of the camera body.

I am MORE than happy with them, and the price just can't be beat. A lot nicer on the wallet than Pocket Wizards or even Paul C. Buff's radio remotes. I may someday pick up some PWs but for now, seeing as I use my AB's mainly indoors, this is the best economical alternative.

P.S. Another small benefit of these is that my wife can now fire the Bees using her Digital Rebel, which doesn't have the PC sync socket.

You won't be disappointed with them if you take the plunge.

I'll post some images from tonight's session as soon as I'm done PP.
