Just make sure it's a USB 2.0 or firewire (depending what platform you use). A USB 1.1 reader will feel slow as hell. I'm not sure there's all that much difference between brands. I've got 2 different readers I use. A Sandisk on the desktop and a little Lexar I keep with the laptop. They both work great.
