Well I looked at both of the photos you posted in their original form. Both have improper exposure and are not in focus. So that may be part of the problem. You're going to have a hard time getting a good post out of photos that are not in focus. What were you trying to focus on, by the way?
I assume you were using flash for these and you needed to have more flash power to get the proper exposure. It looks like you had the compensation set to -1 and it would probably be better at 0 or +?.
