If this helps here are the steps I use. Starting with a psd file, adobe 1998, 16 bit. I have it saved as an action.
1)Duplicate image and close original.
2)Size image to 600 pixels tall.
3)Unsharp mask 150%, radius 0.5, threshold 0.
4)Add my copyright mark
5)Convert to profile sRGB
6)Convert mode to 8 bit
7)Save for web. jpg. Setting quality to obtain file size about 50K. (This also strips exif info).
8)Close duplicate without saving.
