those are great, mike. she's SoooOOOOooo ez on the eyes! and, yeah, the contrast levels look good.

here's one of the first things i often do to an image, i.e., after cropping and resizing.

1. hold down ctl-alt-spacebar and hold down the left-click on the mouse and pull oute a rectangle that mostly just includes the eyes so that portion of the image is blown up quite large.

2. get the levels tool up and grab the black eyedropper and find the blackest part of the pupils and click. this is a pretty good way to set your black level. make sure its the blackest part. it'll be just a small area of the pupils.

3. use the mid-tone slider and adjust to taste and also the same with the white level slider.

after that, i often use the curves tool to fine adjust. remember that the mid-tone slider will effect color values moreso than the black or white so keep an eye on that as well.
