You can use a UPS, but you can't use a cheap one here, either. (The folks at American Power Conversion - APC - are very helpful, BTW). It needs to provide pure sine wave output and have a VA rating that exceeds the power requirements of your strobes by about 50%. I.e. if your strobes draw 10 amps at 110V, that's 1100 watts. 1100 x 1.5 = a 1650 VA rating. I use a UPS to power a Dynalite 1000 W/S pack, but it's a beast (3000 VA) and wasn't cheap (~$1100 brand new IIRC) but I had it lying around the house looking for something useful to do.
