Here's a metering tip from an old shooter, which has stood me in good sted over the years. Works with any sort of reflective meter, spot meter or not. Many things in nature are within a half stop or so of medium gray; clear blue sky (not near the sun!), green grass and much other green foliage, gray stones, gray roadway surfaces (not sidewalks) and light asand many medium shirt colors, such as medium blue or green. One or more of thosse can usuallybe found in any outdoor scene. Just make sure what you meter is in the same light as your primary sucject.
